If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
The word balance brings to my mind an image of a gymnast walking the balance beam.
These athlete's bodies are strong, their minds are focused, and their souls are connected to the action. Their steps are slow and deliberate at first – growing steady and stronger as they become more confident, until their actions become art in motion, and seem to be an effortless routine of balance. Their balancing act resulted from years of daily deliberate-practice, and is now so familiar to these gymnasts - it's become a familiar daily walk.
This image is a great place for us to start – with slow deliberate steps towards our heavenly Father, while we balance life - in body, mind, & soul, working towards an effortless routine of walking daily with God. He calls us, and as we take the first steps towards him, He promises to continue this good work in us…Philippians 1:6.
Jesus is perfect – we are not.
We are going to slip off the balance beam once in a while!
But everyday we grow stronger, and develop more to the conforming Spirit of Christ.
We become balanced by living our lives abiding in Christ - centered right here with the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. When we lean too far off in one direction, we realize it - and pull back to center again. Sometimes we will catch ourselves and get back in balance, other times we slip and fall off, but we know Jesus is there to catch us.
We are learning & practicing an intentional daily walk with God, seeking to know him more & learning the balance of harmony - body, mind, & soul.
